As a resident of the U.S. North West region, Leslie Tejada finds inspiration in the northern light and the changing seasons. Her deep creative empathy with nature and the patterns, textures, and rhythms of her natural surroundings are expressed in her paintings of many layers of translucent color. The main body of Tejada’s work consists of paintings in acrylic, oil, and alkyd on canvas. She mixes most of the paint she uses herself. Several layers of glazing bring forth underlying colors, creating a luminescent quality which is the signature of her work. All of Tejada’s paintings feature metallic and interference pigments, which cause subtle or dramatic color changes depending on the light. Her creative process is non-conceptual and often a specific imaginary source in a painting is as much a mystery to the artist as anyone else. While some view her work as landscapes, seascapes or cityscapes, Tejada invites each viewer to “respond imaginatively and discover for themselves what the paintings may invoke”. |
