Sylvia Moss

In her abstract skyscapes, Sylvia Moss portrays her love of the environment and her respect for the force of nature. Characteristic of her work are bold brush strokes of thick oil paint mixed with textural materials, allowing the qualities of the paint to convey the emotion and atmosphere of the subject matter. Colors and moods range from the pastel blues, pinks, and greens of quiet afternoons to the stormy oranges, reds, and purples of gusty sunsets.

This wide range of color and mood is found as well in her many paintings dealing with social dance, with the salsa, tango, swing. Her own love of dance infuses these vibrant paintings that flash with motion and energy, and through her lively expressionist style comes the individual mood of each dance.

Sylvia Moss was born into an artistic family and began painting and drawing in her teens. Among the many schools and classes she attended are The California College of Arts and Crafts, The Art Student’s League of New York, Columbia University, The University of Illinois, and The California Art Institute.
